Minneapolis Highrise Residents Council - involve residents in apartment buildings in reducing junk mail, creating "swap days" for unwanted items, and learning about household hazardous waste

What did they do?
MHRC presented workshops in high-rise buildings on topics of interest to high-rise residents, such as how to get off junk mail lists. The paperwork to do so was filled out and collected at the meeting. Three buildings sponsored "swap days" where residents can meet in their community rooms to trade or give away unwanted household items. Presentations on how to reduce and properly dispose of household hazardous waste were made by county staff. All activities were heavily promoted in the high-rise newsletter and through property managers.

What can you do?
Organize a "swap day" for residents who live in a building together. Contact us to learn about free speakers and materials to come to your building to talk about waste issues.
