Macalester-Groveland Community Council - published a waste reduction guide and offered neighborhood workshops on waste issues
What did they do?
MGCC wrote, published, and distributed a comprehensive "Guide to Waste Reduction and Recycling" for Mac-Groveland neighborhood residents. They advertised four workshops on waste themes (Composting, Low Holiday Waste, Smart Shopping, Reduce Toxins in the Home) in the local newspaper and their newsletter. They sponsored a Pumpkin Drop to reuse Halloween pumpkins (as feed for farm animals) and created a how-to handout for others to sponsor a similar event.
What can you do?
Consider hosting hands-on workshops to educate people about waste issues. Read a short report on what worked and the lessons learned from the project. View Mac-Groveland's Waste Reduction Guide Host your own post-Halloween Pumpkin Drop or Crayon Reuse project, following MGCC's how-to instructions.
