A permanent science curriculum called “It’s Not Easy Being Green” was created and implemented with all 280 7th grade science students. The students studied waste reduction topics including use of plastic bottles and overly packaged consumer products. They visited a local waste and recycling facility and completed classroom and at-home projects to reduce waste in their own lives. The semester culminated in a Science & Math Night featuring the Green Guardian where students presented their projects on waste reduction to over 600 families, teachers, and other students.
