NACS translated waste reduction information into Somali, Oromo and Amharic and were used it to educate over 250 community members. NACS trained 75 youth and 152 adults to be community “waste leaders.” They held weekly workshops that included action messages about junk mail, recycling, household hazardous waste, label reading and non-toxic cleaning. Over 250 apartments were visited by the waste leaders to share junk mail, waste reduction, and household hazardous waste information. They also used the “Recycling Needs You!” MPCA flyer to visually explain which products are recyclable and what they can be turned into. About 1,000 junk mail postcards were mailed. NACS plans to continue to promote recycling and junk mail reduction through their weekly meetings and household visits.
