One-on-one presentations on waste reduction issues were made to over 250 seniors participating in 40 blood pressure clinics in South Minneapolis. One hundred junk mail postcards were distributed. Over 1,200 brochures on “Predatory Junk Mailings to the Elderly” were developed and distributed through 235 senior-serving organizations in the metropolitan area. In conjunction with parents and school staff, 4th and 5th grade students from the Seward Montessori School created a junk mail tree. This was unveiled at a senior social where a talk on junk mail was given by Hennepin County staff to over 30 seniors and students. The junk mail tree was on display at U.S. Bank on East Lake Street in Minneapolis, where over 3,000 people viewed it.
