Fire Extinguishers

fire extinguishersfire extinguishers

There are five main classes of fire extinguishers:
  • dry chemical
  • clean agent (Halon, Halotron, FE-36)
  • water
  • chemical foam
  • carbon dioxide

Each is designed to extinguish specific types of fires. Most fire extinguishers can be tested, serviced and then recharged if they meet fire code.

Disposal Information

Recycling is possible for fire extinguishers that are condemned because they do not meet fire code or those that are no longer in use. Non-rechargeable extinguishers designed for one-time use are also recyclable.
